Violations against holy sites in Bahrain continues under the supervision of 'security' forces

Monday 14th May2012

Ali al-Jabal, Al Wefaq's head of municipial affairs, said the Ministry of Municipalties demolished tody the newly re-constructed part of Abu Talib Mosque in Hamad Town. The attack by roundabout number 19, took place this morning under the supervision of Bahrain security forces.

The authority's war on places of worship lays clear the moral bankruptcy of some high officials in the state who have crossed the limits of what is lawfully and morally acceptable.

Al-Jabal affirmed that the ministry of municipalities ordered the destruction without any authority to do so, informing that the northern municipality and its municipal council were not informed of these orders.

Sectarian hostility against sacred and holy places has once again reared it's ugly head in Bahrain, after 38 mosques were demolished in the past year.

Ali Al-Jabal said: "Such acts of the authority's reveal how fraudelent their democratic claims are, through the violation of the basic and fundamental right to freedom of religion. As part of this reckless and abusive policy, the authorities insist on destroying these mosques everytime the people try to rebuild them."

"The Ministry of Justice registered this land specifically for the Abu-Talib mosque, which has permission to be rebuilt by the state having gained approval by the ministries of housing, electricity and even the municipalities. In additon, all official proceedures had been completed. But despite this compliance the minister of municipalities still insted on demolishing the mosque in complete disregard to both the people and the law."

"The citizens feel responsible to protect their holy places despite the unacceptable and tyrannical actions of the authorities, and they with this responsibility they will continue to rebuild their mosques."

This illegal action also contravenes the clear recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry, that called on the authorities to rebuild the mosques they destroyed at their own expense.
