Solidarity with Abdulhadi Al Khawaja

Abdulhadi Al Khawaja was arrested last year, beaten and tortured in front of his family, and has been illegally detained without a fair trial to this day. His only crime was supporting the human rights of the people of his country and promoting democracy.

Abdulhadi Al Khawaja has now entered the 91st day of his hunger strike and literally on the verge of imminent death. The Bahraini government have made it very clear that they have no intention of releasing him despite pressure from Amnesty International and 15 other international human rights organisations as well as the Danish government.

Two weeks ago, Al Khawaja went "missing" and when he "re-appeared" a week later, he said he had been drugged and force-fed by a doctor under the orders of the Ministry of Interior.

This is all very sad, but what can we do? Well the main way that we can help is by increasing the pressure:

The lists of things are very simple and quick. They are also very effective, so please take the time to do some of them at least.

The website gives information on how you can use free online faxing services to send messages to Bahraini officials and Ministers regarding the matter.

5) Use this website to free-fax the Bahraini embassy in your country to pressure them:

6) Write letters to the Bahraini ambassador in your country, the foreign minister of Bahrain, the Minister of Interior in Bahrain or the King of Bahrain asking for the immediate release of Abdulhadi Al Khawaja and all political prisoners that are unjustly imprisoned. You can also write to the Danish ambassador (Al Khawaja has dual nationality) and commend them on the pressure they've already put and urge them to increase this pressure.

7) Spread awareness, the Bahraini government and Gulf countries have ensured that there is a media blackout in the country and so there are no mainsteam media sources that are reporting on the situation. They have also spent millions on PR campaigns in an attempt to whitewash any reports of human rights violations in Bahrain, which governments have eaten up and used as excuses not to publicly condemn them. So get on Facebook and Twitter and speak about it, use hashtags etc and just tell people about the situation.
