I received an email from a forum member letting me know they received a suspicious PM via vB, the text follows: "Take measures immediately! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear, elect;lindysmurf;Navy Smurf 77;bugscrap;[email protected]! Spam sending from your computer was detected. We highly recommend you to check your computer and perform online virus check at our site immediately: http://virus-total.servebbs.org/onli...indysmurf;Navy Smurf 77;bugscrap;[email protected] If you do not pass this test* we will have to delete your account and forward a complaint to your ISP with attached log file (your IP address, etc.). ***************" What's going on here? The user didn't tell me what "member" sent this to her, but I assume a spambot was behind it? Are there settings in vB to prevent users from sending these kinds of messages? Maybe prevent them from sending PM's to more than one user? (I am assuming more thsan one user was targeted.) I switch to vB4 at another site I run because I was told it had better anti-spambot controls, boy was that a mistake. Before you "upgrade" to vB4, make sure you read the vB4 forum and see just how "enchanted" many users are. Just sayin... So I don't want to install vB4 at this site, so can anyone share some common settings I want to implement at vB 3.8 to keep things orderly? __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__ |
