Forum Visitor Messages - what am I missing?

This is on a different board, not my own, running 4.0.1.

Someone sent me a question using a VM (I suppose they should have used a PM). I send a reply, then I can't find the VM any more because I got into my PM mailbox and it wasn't a PM. Had to click on my profile again to find it, that was a bit counterintuitive considering that I really seemed to be at my messaging center already but there was no sign of the VM there.

BUT I want to delete it now, and when I do, the whole thing is still there but the text is replaced with This message has been deleted by AntonLargiader.

So, how do I just delete these things?

Also, the check box for selecting that message for moderation is right next to the "Report" link, so at first one might thing that they will report the VM by checking the box. __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__
