Last night I decided to do my upgrade thinking I could rename the "vb" folder to forum and maintain the structure of URLs as they are currently. I discovered this isn't possible and I am concerned I will lose all of my search engine rankings because all of my URLs are going to change. I ended up restoring my back up to 3.8 until I can figure out what to do.
Currently I have VBadvanced as my home page on the top level of my domain with my forum in a "forum" folder and I had hoped to make the new CMS work the same way. But if I install on the top level all of the URLs are then in the top level, not in the folders.
Am I limited only to the option of installing in the forum folder, and if I do will my URL's stay the same? I do use Vbseo and I want to maintain the use for the URL structure I have now, but if I do this can I not use my CMS as the home page on the top level? Will everything need to be redirected to the forum folder? I have heard search engines do not like redirects.
I have been eager to do my upgrade because I like all of the new features, but I am very concerned about what it's going to do to my site structure. Can someone help me with the details on what type of structure changes this will create for me and if there is a way to maintain my current structure?
