Questions about using VBulletin for Subscription websites.

Hello all,
My name is Chad Hunt. I am a total newbie to this software (and alot of web building software). I have decided to build a couple different subscription/paid membership websites. One will be a monthly cost, where thier cards get charged once a month. The other would be an info sales site, where they pay a one time fee and get a years membership.
Is Vbulletin a good match for this?
Can this software do this with no major malfunctions?

Can you use a shopping cart with this software?
Can I use my paypal account?
I have read through some posts saying the there is a lot of trouble with these functions with Vbulletin. Do users usually use another service for payments?
I know that there is other software like membergate, but the upfront cost is more that I can spend on a startup. I just need to get these sites out to see if they will be profitable.

Can anyone help answer this for me?

Also, is there anyone on here that runs a subscription/paid member site that will offer up a little help and advice, mentoring, to me. I would even consider some sort of compensation. Thanks in advance.
