Following the reply in Bug 32936 and the change of status, I've had a further look at the CMS permission system and I really don't like what I found out. Actually, if you grant an user group a permission, you will also automatically grant them all of the permissions that are on the left side of the granted permission, even if you don't check their checkboxes. As it has been said not to be a bug, I can only suppose this is how it was designed and decided to work. Then, why this way? Why making the CMS permission system so restrictive in regards of all the other permission systems of vB that allow a 100% control over them? There may very well be situations in which the current system will prevent a forum admin to set up CMS permissions as he would (just look at the bug linked above). For example, an admin may want to give an user group permissions to read, create and publish content, but not to edit others' content. With the current way CMS permissions work, it wouldn't be possible. Or again, an admin may want to give an user group permissions to read, create content and use HTML within it, but not permissions to edit others' content and to publish content. This too isn't possible with the current system. My request is to have each permission controlling just what it should, and not also granting all the permissions that are on the left side of the granted permission. The way it works now is not allowing a full control over CMS permissions. __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__ |
