Greetings,

I've read a number of threads that deal with getting mod_rewrite to work with Apache and Friendly URLs.... Matty Asia ( http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?325798 ) made a thread and rules that seem to have worked for some; while not for others. I am one of the latter.

I get a 500 error if I use those codes. Yes. I Have checked the file to ensure there is not an extra break in there. No extra \n. White spaces removed.

I am also, successfully, using mod_rewrite rules on my other sites that reside on the same server.

Code:
[Thu Jan 21 14:15:30 2010] [alert] [client IP ADDRESS] /www/virtual/path/to/my/.htaccess: RewriteRule: cannot compile regular expression '^threads/([0-9]+)(?:/?$|(?:-[^/]+))(?:/?$|(?:/page([0-9]+)?))'\n
Someone in Matty's thread posted which rules were not functioning. I expanded and changed them a bit (I have no idea if they're correct) and came up with:
Code:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^members/([0-9]+) member.php?u=$1&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^list/([^/]*/)([0-9]+) list.php?r=$1$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^content/(.*) content.php?r=$1&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^threads/([0-9]+)-(.*)? showthread.php?t=$1 [QSA,L]
RewriteRule ^members/([0-9]+)-(.*)? member.php?u=$1 [QSA,L]
RewriteRule ^forums/([0-9]+)-(.*)? forumdisplay.php?f=$1 [QSA,L]
RewriteRule ^entries/([0-9]+)-(.*)? entry.php?t=$1 [QSA,L]
RewriteRule ^blogs/([0-9]+) blog.php?u=$1&%{QUERY_STRING}
While the above code seems to work, I have no idea if this code is entered correctly.

I have been in contact with vbulletin for the past 3 or 4 days. I do realize that, according to Vbulletin, communication via the support ticketing system is 'confidential' and am not able to post their responses.

Essentially here is what I have been told: The .htaccess rules that ship with Vbulletin 4.0 are for Apache 2 only. The (custom) rules they provided via support ticketing work on their 1.x servers, but not mine. They did provide htaccess code that's meant to work with 1.x servers, but I'm still getting a 500 error.

Has anyone been able to get Vbulletin 4.0, Mod Rewrite Friendly URLs and Apache 1.3 to work with each other, and if so can you post your .htaccess file ?
