CMS Changes to the way the CMS handles authors

I've been running a content based site for ten years. At first, the pages were handcoded, then I built a custom cms. I am currently coverting 1000 articles by hand to vbcms.

I'm quite happy with the Cms how it is, but have some difficulty with the way it works with authors. I hope I can explain them with examples.

1. The Admin needs to be able to select the author

I have had to register 30 author names with the forum so I can convert ten years worth of articles to vbcms. Each time I have to log out and sign in as a new user. Most of the work I get submitted is via email as a document. Although some writers will be happy to fill in the article form, for others it will be an additional hurdle.

Ideally, the admin should be able to pick an author from a list. Via Ajax (like usernames on a PM) or restricted to a usergroup.

This leads me to my next point.

2. Authors should be able to have a non-username as their authorname. I just had to register 30 new members on my site, even though most of them were already a member. Our writers have won four industry award for their writing. They may not have even been considered if the author had been called by their jsernames of sillow9 and squwizmonster.

3. Once an article is published, an author should not be able to edit it, unless they have permissions.

4. There should be an 'about this author' widget which pulls information (avatar, bio, URL) from the profile and places it on the article page.
