First install: "The database has encountered a problem."

Hi,

As an absolute newbie to vBulletin I am working through my first-ever install ... and can't get to first base. I'm carefully following the step-by-step instructions in the manual, but am obiously missing or misinterpretting something.

It seems that my poblem is that vBulletin is unable to create tables or fields in the database, because the initial SELECT query can't find anything.

I'm working from a Linux machine with Apache (2.0.63), PHP (5.2.9), and MySQL (5.0.81-community). The MySQL database for the installation is called dxw_vBulletin, and there are already several other MySQL databases running from the site / domain.

I've installed the various files into a "fora" subdirectory of my public_html directory, and have modified the config.php file as follows:

No changes were made to the other variables in config.php.

When I try http://www.domain-name.org/fora/ or http://www.domain-name.org/fora/admincp/ I receive an error message titled "The database has encountered a problem."

The source code for the initial message indicated:

Then I manually created an "topic_datastore" table in the database and received a similar error message:
