I am a novice webmaster trying to install a vBulletin forum in a Bluehost-hosted account. I used to consider myself a competent amateur web designer -- I built good-looking HTML websites and managed them via FTP -- but that was a decade ago and I never learned PHP or MySQL. I've gone through the steps in the vBulletin manual but got an error 1044 when I attempted to run the vBulletin installation script.
I believe I've done everything correctly: uploading the files, editing the config.php files, and preparing things on the Bluehost end. Bluehost Tech Support confirms that I've done everything correctly on their end, but says they can't do anything to help with whether I've done things perfectly when setting up the database and username on the Bluehost end.
I paid $249 for what I thought would be a plug and play solution, and this has been agonizing: days of fiddling with my config files and Bluehost control panel trying to figure out where there's an inconsistency. I am willing to pay more money to resolve this, but can anyone confirm that the extra $149 will actually give me access to someone who can help with both sides of the installation? I'm sure there's something extremely basic here that I'm missing, but I need someone who won't say "you've got to talk to the other service's tech support team."
