Opposition powers in Bahrain refuse measure to revoke nationality of 31 citizens

The opposition powers in Bahrain strongly renounce the unconstitutional and unlawful decision made by the authorities Tuesday by revoking nationalities of 31 citizens, two of are former MPs, lawyers, in addition to members of the opposition. Their nationalities were revoked in an outrageous violation of basic human rights and international laws and norms of the international Declaration of Human Rights and the covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
The opposition powers in Bahrain consider this measure as part of the "police state" measures that have been undertaken by the authorities since 16th March , 2011 when the authorities refused the political solution and imposed a state of emergency under the "National Safety" law and which is still applied through various crimes and violations taking place in many areas across Bahrain.
The opposition powers stated that the authorities must live up to its pledges made in front of the international community on 23rd November when the regime declared that it would commit itself to implementing the recommendations of the BICI, as well as the Foreign Minister's pledges made in front of the UN's Human Rights Council in Geneva when he promised that his regime will implement 145 out of 176 recommendations demanded by the international community. All are recommendations related to respect of human rights and democracy.
The opposition powers said that what is happening on ground contradicts with all pledges made by the authorities which are trying to escape accountability on human rights violations. The authorities are trying to circumvent the international demands to conduct a genuine meaningful dialogue with the political opposition to save the country from its crisis, the opposition stated.
The opposition powers said that such measures are part of the punishment applied against the opposition members and its masses.
The opposition also demanded the regime to stop exploiting the deteriorating security situation that has been caused a political deadlock, which the regime is responsible for. The opposition criticized the regime for its and revenging acts against dissidents.
The opposition societies condemned the revoking of citizens' nationalities and demanded the authorities to go back on the measure that will only further complicate the situation and threaten the social fabric and stability.
The opposition powers expressed their solidarity with the 31 individuals, as well as their families and strongly stands against such arbitrary and unfair measures.
