Opposition parties condemn verdicts against figures: Scandalous trials prove the absence of justice

http://alwefaq.net/index.php?show=news&action=article&id=6897

Tuesday 4th September, 2012 The opposition parties in Bahrain strongly condemned the verdicts upheld by the high court of appeal against defendant political figures, who have been imprisoned for expressing their opinion. The opposition stressed that the verdicts are revengeful and are issued by the regime against its political opponents through sham trials. These verdicts have been stated by the state officials before the judge announced them. The opposition parties also stated that today's verdicts indicate that justice in Bahrain is as described by Amnesty International "Travesty of Justice", as elements of justice are absent. Trials which are supposed to be independent and neutral are being revengefully used by the regime against its political opponents. These verdicts have not been issued through proper litigation proceedings and are obviously politicized, they are therefore considered worthless. They stated that "the verdict issued today upholds the sentences passed down during the 'National Safety Period'/SOE by the Military Emergency Court. This indicates the indifference between the military law and the civil law, and that they are both under the authority's hands, to be used for "political oppression" as described by the highest commissioner of human rights in the United Nations, Navi Pillay".

"Such verdicts give an idea about the oppression and dictatorship the people of Bahrain are suffering under. This all takes place under observation of the international community which is responsible for neither pressurizing nor being serious with the Bahraini regime to fulfill its commitments in order to be part of the international community as a real state that commit itself to the international law and standards as well as human rights treaties".

"What exists in Bahrain is not up to the level of a structured state. It is kind of a tyrannical authority and a repressive government. It is merely an attempt which falls short imitating other legitimate regimes. Brutal security forces are hidden behind all of these decorative titles; where the people are repressed, terrified, humiliated, tortured and cold-bloodedly murdered. The political persecution is the art of this authoritarian regime. So many human rights violations are perpetrated against the people aiming to silence the steadfast pro-democracy struggle in Bahrain. The people demand a transition to real democracy. They demand their legitimate political rights back, as they are "the source of all powers"; whilst, the current tribal, family, sectarian domination on all powers are exploited to repress the political opponents", opposition parties emphasized. They stressed that "today's verdicts are politically decided by the regime for the crisis to continue with no breakthrough. Life-sentences against some of political figures and other opponents are, also, a life-sentence for the popular pro-democracy struggle". "The mentality of the current regime in Bahrain has been uncovered after today's politicized verdicts. It is a revengeful approach in which all dictatorship tools are activated; including the sham trials. The inquiry commission (BICI) which formed by the regime and its report was, also, accepted by the regime; described the detainees as a prisoners of conscience and recommend their release. But, the regime insists to tyranny, ongoing arrogance and more human right violations against the people". They pointed out that "the HRW report emphasized the absence of justice in both military and civil trials. It documented the grave violations against the due process rights; including the trials of opposition figures and activists". "We demand an immediate release to opposition figures, activists and all prisoners of conscience who got revengefully arrested on political backgrounds", the opposition societies emphasized.
