The regime forces brutally suppressed peaceful prodemocracy demonstrations who were demanding a democratic transition in 7 areas around Bahrain, on Friday 24th August, 2012. A number of injuries were reported among the peaceful prodemocracy protesters who were violently attacked by the regime forces. Shot-gun, an internationally prohibited weapon, and excessive use of lethal tear gas were reported to have been fired at people at densely populated neighborhoods in an attempt to hurt and kill as many as possible. In an attempt to kill, the regime forces fired a number of lethal tear gas canisters inside a house in Nuwaidrat causing asphyxia among children and the households. One of the prodemocracy protesters is reported to have sustained a serious bird-shot injury to the eye when the regime forces fired at him. However, injured protesters usually avoid going to hospital fearing arrests as the hospital has been militarized since the crackdown in March 2011. Many peaceful protests took to the street demanding an immediate and unconditioned release of all political prisoners stressing that the arrests were related to freedom of expression. The protesters also mentioned the torture inside prisons and the ill-treatment the prisoners face when they demanded their basic humanitarian rights, as the prisoners are sometimes kept in solitary confinements just for asking for their rights.
