CMS 4.0.6 CMS Permissions - Users see a standard permission denied messages on homepage

Hello all,

Hopefully somebody out there will be able to help me out with this. As per the title I am running VB Suite 4.0.6 and all usergroups, except administrators, are seeing the standard permission denied message on the homepage.

Curiously, members can see articles that have been posted in sub sections if they use the direct URL. Once in they can then click around all the sections and categories as normal. They only see the no permission page on:

http://www.mysite.com
http://www.mysite.com/index.php
http://www.mysite.com/content/

That said, when viewing an article I have noticed that members cannot see attachments.

Here is a list of what I have checked:
The usual - i.e. plugins disabled and an unedited style

ACP -> vBulletin CMS -> Permissions
All sub sections are set to "permission not set" ()

The only parent section has the correct permissions, i.e. barring the banned usergroup, all usergroups have read access.

I have save these settings a couple of times and cleared the CMS cache a number of times.

ACP -> vBulletin CMS -> Content Manager
All content items are marked as published

ACP -> vBulletin CMS -> Section Manager
All sections are marked as published

ACP -> Settings -> Options -> Content Management
Default Page - Is set correctly

So, here I am - what else can I check __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__
