I'm an switching servers and need to know the best way to avoid any downtime. I have already transfered the sites over. What I am worried about is the DB and the time when the DNS propagates.
Here is what I'm thinking. Change the config file on the new server to point to the old server DB. Confirm it works and then start the DNS change. After a couple of days, close forum and transfer the DB over to new server and change back config. Is this the best way? What do I change in the config file to point to the old server DB? Would it be this part? Do I put the ip of the old server where "localhost" is now? Does the port change? Is there any other setting in the config file I need to change? // ****** MASTER DATABASE SERVER NAME AND PORT ****** // This is the hostname or IP address and port of the database server. // If you are unsure of what to put here, leave the default values. $config['MasterServer']['servername'] = 'localhost'; $config['MasterServer']['port'] = 3306; __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__ |
