How to upgrade the FCKeditor 2.1.1 to a newer version

Just sharing some information as it might be useful to others.

I am using the xwysiwyg mod in a few 0.10.2 and 0.11 websites with the default fck_211 (fck_211_php) packages/editors (and others installed).
The fck editor is very nice but has some very irritating bugs that only seem to manifest with current browsers. At least, I didn't experience the below issue when still using Firefox 1.5.
One bug is as documented at http://dev.fckeditor.net/ticket/220 where adding a link the first time adds an anchor with something like href="javascript:void(0);/*1264006125069*/".
That means you always have to check and correct that.

To try and fix the above, I found a rather simple way to upgrade the fck editor to the current version 2.6.5.

Steps to take:

1. Download the FCKeditor 2.6.5 from http://ckeditor.com/download in zip format.
I didn't try the even newer CKEditor 3.1

2. Unzip the FCKeditor_2.6.5.zip locally which creates a 'fckeditor' directory

3. Use ftp to copy the full fckeditor directory to the server under the phpWebsite directory /files/xwysiwyg/editors/

4. Rename the directory /files/xwysiwyg/editors/fckeditor/ to /files/xwysiwyg/editors/fck_265_php/

5. Copy the following files under /files/xwysiwyg/editors/ :
fck_211_php.conf to fck_265_php.conf
fck_211_php.php to fck_265_php.php

6. Change in /files/xwysiwyg/editors/fck_265_php.conf the path like
$cfg_path = "/files/xwysiwyg/editors/fck_265_php/";

No changes have to be made in /files/xwysiwyg/editors/fck_265_php.php

7. In the database, copy in table mod_xw_config the record with the editor field value
'fck_211_php' to a new row with editor field value 'fck_265_php'

This allows the new editor version to be selected in the xwysiwyg Manager

8. For the FCKeditor 2.6.5, add support for Safari by defining the supported browsers as
FB.6+;NS7+;IE5.5+;MZ1.3+;FX1+;SF

Note that the FCKeditor 2.1.1 does apparently not support Safari.

9. At this point most works as usual except for browsing the server file system to select or upload files.
Trying to do so raises a warning
This connector is disabled.
Please check the "editor/filemanager/connectors/php/config.php" file

So, in this file, change the default value ´false´ to ´true´ in the line
$Config['Enabled'] = true; __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__
