Considering physically moving forums, would appreciate input.

The existing forums reside at /forums, but with the new CMS of VBulletin, I am considering just making VBulletin to run the site at the .com site.

Hosting says they could do a permanent redirect from the .com to the /forums, but I'm concerned about search engine issues.

I know it is possible to physically move the forums from /forums to the .com, but honestly the idea scares the crap out of me.

Or, could do a fresh install on the .com, back up the existing /forums and just import everything?

Would really appreciate thoughts on how to do it, the best way, things to consider, etc.
