CMS FrontPage Loading Issues

Is it possible that after adding an RSS feed into the FrontPage of the site from a site externally - in other words a news feed or the like and the site it is pulling the feed from goes down or is offline for some reason causes the FrontPage not to load ?

This is a strange one but does happen .........

Feed into the widget as normal pulling from a site

The site it pulls from went offline for a few hours - frontpage wont load but rest of site works absolutely fine so i remove the widget rss feed from the home layout and loads again no problems.

The site it pulls from then is back online and i add the widget rss back to the layout and back to normal

Should this happen ? And if so can we work around it if for some reason it happens again so the page still works even if the rss is not operative. __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__
