I took my forums down back around Feb of this year. I had installed VB4 and enjoyed a database crash. As the forum was less than a week old and mainly just for my small group of friends I had been rather lax on backups, mainly cause in several years of using the 3.8 software on friends sites and recently on my own had never had any issues.
I am currently a 3.8 Owned License customer. As I purchased the forum last year I got the short end of the stick on the license changes. Due to that I wont be buying 4.0, I am disgruntled, but there's nothing I can do about it.
I currently have the option of installing either.
3.8.5
4.0.2 Patch Level 4
I've heard some horror stories about 4, and personally experienced a database bug back in Jan of this year that killed my forum. So I am a bit leary of 4, 3.8 I never had issues with.
Is 4.0.2 a stable version worth running a forum on or am I better of sticking with 3.8.5. If 3.8.5 is the better option, is it still secure?
I know I dont get security or patch fixes anymore as my license expired in March... so basically I'm asking do I have a 200.00 paper weight here and need to look at other options? or are one of the two versions of the software I have good enough to use?
