In the coming weeks I will start a large migration project from a WordPress site to vB. I know there is no automatic migration process to vB so it's one I'm manually doing. To do this, however, I need to be able to install vB on the server so the other admins and I can do the copy/paste migration of nearly 500 pages of content. So I'm looking for advice. I assume I can install vB into a sub-directory on the server to do the migration, then when the time is right move the vB files from the sub-directory to the main domain. Correct? Will I encounter any problems with this? I know I'll have to change the install path in the Admin CP, but is that all I'll need to do? My other question is the WordPress site currently runs phpBB. Now I know Impex can import the phpBB database to vB, but can I do it twice without doubling up everything? The reason I need to do it twice is because of all the comments on the WordPress site (connected to phpBB by a bridge). We're going to copy and paste all the comments and using a plug-in over at vB.org change the author, but to do that the user must exist. That is why we need to import the database twice: once to correctly author the comments, and then again to update the actual threads in the forum. Does that make sense? Will that work? I look forward to any comments or suggestions. __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__ |
