I think it is time that vbulletin has an overhaul done to the Group Membership feature.

Past user suggestions:
Notification: Group Membership requests

This was a suggestion for a notification in the notification area to notify if a new member is requesting to join a joinable public group. (The notification would show for only the group leaders)

Group Membership Notification

This was a suggestion to send a private message to the groups leaders when someone is accepted. (This could be expanded upon and have it set to send a private message to 'x' users etc.

The above two suggestions were pretty good but they never got any feedback. I would like to use this thread to start getting some ideas coming in on other ideas as well plus with ideas on how to improve on aspects of the above, eg. options to enable/disable each of them etc.

Some other suggestion I had for Group Memberships:
An area on the view request page that has options. An option to write a comment on the request to join page to give feedback while it is pending. (Would send them a notification so they know they have a reply)

If group leader clicks deny, then a field is shown where they can enter a reason. This reason is then sent to the member through a private message automatically explaining they have not been granted access and a reason.

If the group leader clicks accept, then it would send the user a private message letting them know they have been accepted.

If the group leader clicks deny and then the user tries and applies again, it has a record of when they last applied and the reason they got denied.

Another option for the group leader/admin to temp/perm ban members from applying to certain group memberships. There would be a page where admins/smods/mods or whoever you set that can see a list of members who have been temp/perm banned from joining and the reason.

I look forward to hearing any feedback from the public and vb staff (Don) on how you feel about this long overdue part in VB
