Forum Upgrade from v3.8.6 to v4.0.6 Problem

Hello - I upgraded today from 3.8.6 to 4.0.6, and after the upgrade, it looks like the default template is all messed up. It looks like a simple HTML site/layout from 1998.

Before performing the upgrade, I did disable all of my plugins/extensions, but I did not set the default style to the 'vB3' default, nor did I disable/delete the vB3 styles.

Can someone lend me some pointers as to what I can do to resolve the problem (please, don't say revert to backup!! :-D


Here are some basic stats of my board:
3.7M posts
55K users
120K threads
Raw SQL (sqldump) size: 2.7GB
PHP: v5.2.1.3
MySQL: v5.1.47

When I installed a (fresh) forum in my /beta area, everything worked fine. Granted, I did not import my database but created a new one.

If you need any additional info, please ask (I'm not sure if I've provided enough info to at least get someone going in assisting me).
