CMS Attached images in CMS will not display

I have been trying to encourage Users to upload images rather than hotlink or use off site hosting that can change images later and the Original system were thumbs displayed by default was real nice , well that was broken in 4.04 were we now have a system that is unfamiliar and difficult to most users for formating photos. well enough for now but still a PITA However my upgrade from 4.04 to 4.06 has caused ALL CMS photos to revert to links and no matter if I edit them they DO NOT display in the article, now how many magazines have you seen that require you to go to another page to see the Images on the article.

At least this did not lose the images, and the thumbnail still displays on the preview.
