Promoting Your Forum On The Worldwide Web /Google Adwords Programs Etc......

Any tips for a newbie relating to the subject header of this thread?
I just recently started my first site and forum at this place http://www.plentymoredomains.com
and i think for a first effort i have done quite well but frankly have little idea how to build a steady growth of members and traffic!
I am not interested in whether it makes any money or not but would like to cover the cost of running the site hopefully for many years while i work on other things.
I have tried targeting a key audience with a mass mailing software program to draw public awareness to my site but found the software mostly unsuccessful at mail delivery anyway. Out of 700 or so emails it managed to send a 100 but then they would have only succeeded into dropping in people's junk folders anyway. I know that is not a advisable method of advertising yourself on the net as it falls into spamming.
I am thinking about setting aside a small budget as it is all i can afford around the cost of the forum software itself for investing into the google adwords program but can anybody give me any advice as to whether that is really advisable for small fish such as me?

I am very pleased with the software itself and would love to run many forums just to interact with people on a daily basis covering many topics of interest. __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__
