Forum database tables and size?

Prior to 4.0, we had ~2.5M posts, a postindex table of ~12M and a database that was approximately 2-2.5GB.

After the upgrade and rebuilding the index tables, we have the same post count, but the postindex table is now ~24M record, and the following other tables seem bloated as well:
vb_post - 1.4GB
vb_searchcore - 524MB
vb_searchcore_text - 2.3GB


Is this expected behavior? __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__
