Forum Problems upgrading from 3.8.3

I am having some issues with the upgrade process.

I upgraded to 3.8.5 and disabled my mods in config.php with the (define...)

I can access my admincp, but when when I go to my site from there my homepage is a little out of whack. The advertisement bars are way down the page and I need to know how to fix it and then how to put my mods back on.

Also, do I do all of the upgrades to 4.0 etc?

I don't have a lot of time to keep trying to figure it out so if I could talk by phone to someone and get this totally done then I'll send you one of my $70 Combo DVD's that will teach you how to make money in the stock market.
