Need to upgrade hosting - suggestions?

We're currently with 1and1; haven't really had any problems with them, support-wise. Every time we've had questions or needed assistance we've gotten it. However, we are already at the limit of our current plan; and I'm thinking that it might be time to upgrade.

Current plan:

Opteron 1216 HE dual-core (2 x 2.4GHz)
2Gb RAM
Software RAID 1 config (2 x 250Gb hard drives)
1,000 Gb traffic

Has SSH access, SSL, MySQL, PHP support and all of that good stuff. Runs CentOS.

Our site stats:

Average of ~ 750 to 1000 users @ a time

Threads: 200,723
Posts: 2,555,769
Members: 23,162
Active Members: 3,630

I CAN say we're already getting MySQL 'out of resources' errors. Specific error is

Looking @ the server I'd say that CPUs are working fairly hard and MySQL gets maxed out at peak hours.

SO...am looking for a solution that is fairly reliable, that can handle our current size as well as growth. Was looking @ Rackspace Cloud Sites; but while I like the scalability aspect, the fact that vBulletin is database-intensive is telling me that a dedicated server might make more sense. __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__
