Is it possible to pinpoint relevant discussion content?

By looking at such statistics as the number of replies, the number of views, and the number of topics it becomes apparent what discussions/topics are (more or less) popular.

Yet, the very dynamics of discussion forums can allow important discussions “to get lost in the shuffle,” as well as important emerging trends being overlooked. Hence, some forum readers can become confused, and lose interest in a forum’s content.


A rather remarkable, yet simple approach (that uses the number of replies statistics) may help better pinpoint those important discussions about to “get lost in the shuffle,” and even discern discussions which may be “a barometer of sorts” of emerging (otherwise overlooked) trends.

The approach would analyze specific forums by; taking the previous 30 discussion posts, or discussions over the past 24 hours, and mathematically average-out the number of replies. The specific discussion thread(s) whose number of replies falls closest to the average can be highlighted to attract forum readers/participants attention (the number of replies statistics may yield the best examples in determining relevant discussions).

Has VBulletin considered adding mathematical averaging capabilities to average-out the number of replies columns in discussion forums to yield (possibly valuable) statistical results?
