CMS Custom Article pages with Custom fields in create a article

I already asked these over at vb.org but no one seems to know the answers really.

Two questions really.

First:
Is it possible to have optional fields in the create an article and if filled out display the result in the article itself?

Pretty much I want to throw in a rating system but normal news isn't going to use it. Only certain articles.

But have no idea where I would begin looking to add custom fields.


Also:
I'm trying to setup a Slideshow I've created in Flash to update based on what articles are posted. However I wanted to updated only certain categories. My slideshow works off of XML feeds and I have simple script to pull the CMS article table from the Vbulletin Database. However it doesn't seem to contain anything about the category in this table.

Does anyone know where the relationship links up? I figured I'll have to use a join in there to pull category information but can't find where they link up(article and category). __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__
