Max Connections vb_datastore

Hello* we are running a very large forum 400*000+ registered users* an average of 500 members and 2000 guest on the site at any given time* 782 forums and 9*065*747 posts.

We are started getting a high volume of max connection errors from the database. We have increased the number of connections to 4*800 and that did not seem to help. A row from vb_database table is now over 1M and is believed to cause the slow down.


Can anyone suggest any optimizations? We have considered turning off persistent connections that the manual suggests but I am not sure what the impact of that change would be.
