Usergroup promotion problems

For some reason, when I add a promotion from my primary usergroup (that has certain "no" options selected, ie: uploading attachments, etc.) to an additional usergroup that gives the members options that the primary usergroup does not... it won't allow the users to recieve the additional usergroup options. I thought if you were promoted to an additional usergroup, that the settings in that additional group you were promoted to would override the settings of the primary usergroup. But that doesn't seem to be working.


So do I have to switch it to where my users are promoted to a new primary usergroup in order for certain posting priviledges to take effect that are disabled in the original primary usergroup?? __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__
