Hi,

I am looking for usability suggestions for a document download section for my site.

My audience isn't necessarily the most computer literate, so I am trying to build an easy system to navigate.

There will be thousands of documents.

There will likely be about 10 main categories of these documents, and each category will have several ways they "could" be sub-categorized - but that isn't my plan at this point.

I plan to list them in sortable tables with a few main points about the document and a link to download it.

There doesn't need to be any user access, access will be the same for all users.

There will not be a mechanism for users to upload documents, this is purely a read only system.

Before I begin something like this, I ask myself "What would Google do?" Not that they are the only ones who get things right, but I really like intuitive systems that just plain work well.

Suggestions for how to design an easy system to navigate are appreciated.
