Visit a Broadway Landmark Theatre, The LyceumThere are 40 professional theatres on Broadway, but two stand above the rest in terms of longevity. 1903 saw the completion of both the New Amsterdam Theatre and the Lyceum, with the Lyceum managing to retain the same name ever since opening night. You will find this old beauty of a theatre at 149 W 45th St,hermes australia, where it has been in permanent production since opening night in 1903. Theatre Producer Daniel Frohman was the Lyceum's original owner, and remnants from his life, in particular his monogrammed desk, remain at home in the theatre. The Lyceum was built in the French Beaux-Arts style and maintains most of its original architecture including the undulating marquee that clearly distinguishes it from neighboring buildings. At various times, the Lyceum has been creative home to various well known actors, including Basil Rathbone, Fanny Brice and Ethel Barrymore,http://www.hermesbagsau.biz. Over the years some of the most well received shows at the Lyceum have included Look Back in Anger, A Taste of Honey, The Importance of Being Earnest and I Am My Own Wife. Next up at the Lyceum, Sarah Ruhl opens her play In The Next Room, on 19th November 2009. Broadway; Even Spectacular Mathematically. Broadway is spectacular in all ways, even in its statistics. In 40 theatres, box offices collected almost 940 million worth of tickets in the 2007-2008 season. And thatï؟½s just ticket sales. That doesnï؟½t include all the money that floods into the theatre district to pay for visitorï؟½s meals and hotels rooms. And the numbers for 2009 are looking very similar. Broadwayï؟½s theater district encompasses the space from 41st Street to 53rd Street between 6th and 9th Avenues. Of the 40 ï؟½Broadwayï؟½ theatres (those that seat over 500), only 4 are actually located on Broadway itself. Thereï؟½s no shortage of live theatre to see, including Off-Broadway there are 1500 shows produced annually, to which 7 million tickets are sold. You wonï؟½t be alone at a show in New York City. Because of its fame, Broadway attracts thousands of hopeful actors, singers and dancers from around America. And, as a result, directors and producers have their pick of talent from a huge pool, ensuring audiences the best performances on offer anywhere in the world. New York Has Loved Live Theatre for 250 Years. We know Broadway as the home of the most fantastic and extravagant musical theatre in the world. It is astonishing to realize that live theatre has been a part of New Yorkï؟½s cultural identity for 250 years. The first recorded theatre to have been built in New York went up in 1750. But the New York theatre experience of today is quite different from that of old. In the beginning Shakespeareï؟½s plays were performed, and by the mid-1800ï؟½s minstrel shows were popular. Operas,http://www.michaelkorshandbagsca.biz, melodramas, vaudeville and musical entertainment, were all produced in 1800ï؟½s New York. European burlesque had also made it to New York and thrilled audiences by the end of the 1800ï؟½s. We can thank the performers of the 19th century for the beginnings of musical theatre; however the modern musical wasnï؟½t born until the staging of Show Boat in 1927. Instead of being a hobbled together variety show, Show Boat found a way to link the music, story and dance cohesively in one package. Mid-town Manhattan is the home of the theatre district today, although at one stage most of the theatres in New York were downtown. The Broadway theatre district of today has been rooted in place since the 1920ï؟½s. Although the musicals today are very different from the entertainment of previous centuries, we must thank the early beginnings of New York theatre for the wonderful shows we are able to see today on Broadway. The Actors on Broadway Are Stars Youï؟½ve Never Heard Of. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman are household names but how about Joel Grey and Julie Harris? The less well-known names are highly regarded actors, but have probably never been featured in a gossip magazine. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the later are Broadway, not Hollywood, stars. Most of the stars of Broadway arenï؟½t as well known as their Hollywood colleagues. Sure, some theatres occasionally bring in a movie or television star to boost audience numbers, but for the most part, the hard working men and women who ï؟½tread the boardsï؟½ of live theatre are less well known. They are however, no less talented than their celluloid counterparts. On Broadway there is no opportunity to yell ï؟½cutï؟½ if you forget your line, your shoe breaks, an actor forgets to come onstage, or you lose your wig. The show must go on!A stunt or body double is not heard of on Broadway. Most Broadway actors must have the triple-threat skills of acting, singing and dancing to make it. They must have comic timing and be skilled at emotional drama,http://www.hermescanada.biz. So, include a show on your next New York visit that stars some of the legends of Broadway. Bernadette Peters, Elaine Stritch, Joel Grey, Julie Harris and Boyd Gaines are some of the names to look for.Related articles: nike air pas chere_qs 9000 ts _ nike air max requin_s3901_ nike air ninja_cell phones no plan _ __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__
