Forum Question about test site configuration

I am confused about the documentation in the manual appendix technical docs "Using Forum, Blog or CMS in a Subdirectory." When I created my live site everything was installed in domain.net/vb. It is the root of the live site. I use redirects from the domain root to get traffic to the default site. Should I have followed the instructions and uploaded the contents of the do_not_upload/forum directory to the domain.net/ directory, or are these instructions for a different situation?


I have also created a test site domain.net/vbtest. It is a copy of the live site, configured to run with a copy of the live site database. It appears to be functioning properly and access the test database. Have I done this correctly? I am concerned about polluting the live site in some way while testing the new version. I adjusted all the url settings in the control panel and includes/config.php. __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__
