20-09-12 04:40 PM A new phase of international observation after a stormy session against the regime delegation that faced it with more lies Wide international condemnation against the Bahraini regime in Geneva: Violations are ongoing and no serious intentions to stop them http://alwefaq.net/index.php?show=news&action=article&id=6973 Many countries and many international human rights organizations have strongly condemned the violations perpetrated by the regime against the citizens and their rights on Wednesday ( 19th September, 2012) during a session at the United Nations Human Rights council in Geneva. The countries stressed that Bahrain should be committed to human rights principles and show more respect to freedoms and should guarantee the freedom of assembly to let citizens freely exercise their right to protest in pursue of their rights. After condemnations of today's session, Bahrain enters a new phase of international observation. Bahrain was widely condemned in today's session for its ongoing human rights violations in the absence of basic political freedoms. The regime was confronted with 167 recommendations from the last Universal Periodic Review for human rights , this number of recommendations is considered to be the highest for a given country. The regime promised to commit itself to 145 recommendations while violations , home raids, arbitrary arrests , sham trials, excessive use of violence, restriction of freedoms and collective punishment are all ongoing. The official delegations , however, had to provide misleading information to hide violations committed against peaceful citizens which made the official delegates lose their credibility who delivered speeches full of fraud. The delegates denied having prisoners of conscience in detention, while in reality, thousands of citizens are still behind bars, with children among them. The official delegation forged the truth when it said that "all charges related to freedom of expression have been dropped". Austria, America, Britain: No real implementation of the recommendations Austria demanded : 1. The release of all prisoners of conscience. 2. The stop of torture. 3. Stop revenge against opponents 4. The transfer of AbdulHadi Al-Khawaja for treatment in Denmark. United states: America stressed that Bahrain is demanded to guarantee a progress in the human rights field as well as to drop all the charges related to assembling and release all imprisoned protesters who participated in peaceful protests. Bahrain is also demanded to act more regarding holding officials who are responsible for violations indicating that Bahrain is losing the initiative to develop the Human Rights situation. Britain: A clear timeline should be set to implement Geneva Recommendations as well as BICI recommendations. UK also demanded the Authorities in Bahrain to guarantee the right to protest and hold all violators to account, stressing that Bahrain should protect the rights of Human rights defenders. Human Rights Watch: Freedom of expression must be respected The representative of Human Rights Watch Organization stressed on holding security forces accountable for torture and the authority must hold accountable high ranked officers who committed violations. Human Rights Watch spoke out about the increasing violations against prisoners and demanded the authorities to respect the freedom of expression. It stressed that the penal code that regulates the activities of societies is counter to international standards, demanding Bahrain to seriously consider the implementation of the recommendations. Human Rights Watch demanded the government of Bahrain to release all prisoners of conscience who have been kept in jail for freely expressing their opinion like Nabeel Rajab and other opposition figures (the group of 21) and called for a stop of abuse against Human rights defenders. Amnesty International: violators evaded justice Amnesty international stressed that High Criminal Court of Appeal presented harsh convictions against activists such as AbdulHadi Al-Khawaja and Ebrahim Sharif, indicating that investigations outcomes related to human rights violators and criminalizing torture have not been made public. Amnesty international stressed that legislation will be a hollow exercise if not implemented indicating that authorities in Bahrain can criminalize, according to the local law, anyone who exercise their freedom of expression . Amnesty also expressed their concern about the ongoing brutal suppression. The Indian council: all charges related to freedom of expression must be dropped The Indian Council of South America called to harmonize the national legislations to meet the international standards and the enforced disappearance convictions of freedom of expression stressing on the necessity of amending the criminal law procedures and provide more freedom and reform The council called the authorities to drop all charges related to the freedom expression and to fully implement the BICI recommendations. It indicated that despite the refusal of dropping the death penalties we call Bahrain to reconsider the penalties according to the international law. The Union of Arab Human Rights activist stressed that censoring websites on the Internet has a negative impact on the government and said that the changes in the judiciary system are slow. International woman organization: Children are still detained The representative of the International Women Organization said that doctors in Bahrain are still paying a high price because they treated injured protesters. She added that injured people are defaced because they fear going to the militarized hospitals and fear being abducted. She also said that many children are still detained and demanded the protection of the human rights activists who attended Geneva because they have been threatened . The international federal , Cairo Centre and BRAVO: the regime punishes activists. The international federal of human rights stressed that the authorities in Bahrain punishes people who shed light on human rights violations. The representative, Dr.Munthir Al-Khor also mentioned that the trial of Nabeel Rajab is because of his human rights activities stressing that torture is a clear human rights violation in Bahrain. The representative of Cairo Centre for Human rights, Mariam Al-Khawaja, said the authorities in Bahrain are still committing violations and refuse to implement the recommendations. She added that beating and torture of detainees are still ongoing ,in addition to targeting human rights defenders and jailing them without fair trials, indicating that most of the victims of violence are below the age of 18. Dr.Nadda Dhaif, the representative of BRAVO, stressed that the popular movement in Bahrain is peaceful and " the people in villages are unarmed, their only weapons are their voices", she added that " women are being oppressed and humiliated , Zinab Al-Khwaja is an example." Dr.Nada Dhaif Demanded the immediate release of all prisoners and recommended the establishing of a permanent human rights office in Bahrain as well as a United Nations rapporteur. She asked the official delegation to show seriousness and release all political prisoners Noneviolent Party: the regime is using its inistitutions to supress the opposition. Sayed Hadi Al-Mosawi took the floor on behalf of the Nonviolent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty, an international NGO accredited in Category I by the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Al-Mosawi stated that the authorities in Bahrain are not serious about implementing the recommendations of either the BICI or this UPR. Whilst they portray an image of implementation, the very violations condemned in those reports continue on the ground. He also added that the party urge the HRC to insist on serious implementation and monitoring of all BICI and UPR recommendations. This includes setting up an office for the high commission to open in Bahrain with full mandate, either voluntarily or through a special session of the human rights council. Bahrain should also allow visits of special Rapporteurs of torture, independence of judiciary, freedom of expression, and discrimination. In Bahrain, thousands of people have been subjected to arbitrary arrest, torture and unfair trials for seeking to exercise basic human rights. The authorities use the institutions (executive, legislative, judicial, security and media) to repress the people. There is a forced sectarian policy of segregation as many citizens are deprived of their basic rights because they are Shiite. The number of those killed has now doubled since the BICI and continues to grow, most recently a 16-year-old child, Husam Alhaddad, was the victim of excessive force by police. Torture and degrading treatment in illegal detention centres is still shamefully happening. Peaceful demonstrations are met with tear gas and bird shot gun pellets, whilst other protests are banned outright. Incitement of hatred against any opposition remains a key feature of local official ![]() المصدر... __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__ |
