CMS Stylevar puzzle in Section Nav widget

I'm trying to make a specific tweak in the Section menu. I have most of it the way I want it, but the one bit that's beating me is the selected section highlight.

This first screenie shows how the Widget looks when still on the Home page: strong green header, pale grey menu items, with a light green hover. The hover position also displays the little arrow pointing to the Primary Content section. All good with that.

Then if I click on the highlighted Section (Sports Psychology in this example) it changes to the light green. Screenie below shows the selected section in light green and the hover over 'Documentation'.

The change I'd like to make but can't see how to do is simply to add that little arrow to the selected menu item. I think that's actually more appropriate there than on the hover item.

I've searched everywhere in stylevar for it but can't find it. I can see everything else. The obvious place is in the vbcms section along with the other navwidget_menuitem items such as vbcms_navwidget_menuitem_background. All I can see is the set for normal conditions, and the set for the hover state. Nothing to define the selected state. For the hover state I can easily remove the arrow if I want to do that, but not add it to the selected item. The selected state must be defined somewhere, somehow. It's in the correct light green (can't remember if I was able to do this in 4:00 before I updated to 4.0.2 or not), and the font changes to Bold.

It's a smallish thing but now I want to change it, it's so simple to change the other two states so it should be simple for this. It's driving me nuts now.

I've gone through every line in stylevar looking for that light green colour and changing it, just in case it's somehow linked to something else. I've extracted the variables from phpmyadmin and searched for every incidence of that colour. Can't find one I haven't tried.

Any help appreciated.

One other tiny bug. For the navwidget_header I can change the font colour, but when I try to change size or style to bold, it doesn't change.
