Forum Album thumb issue- Can't delete thumbs

In that image in the lower right corner it says there are over 2400 thumbs spread out over 125 pages.
Those are the images that came over in the 3.8/4.0 database merging. The pictures are in thier respective albums and the links to the threads work perfectly.
I tried making a new album and moving the thumbs/pictures to that. No joy there. The thumbs appear to be stuck to the upload area and I would assume since they came over in the DB merge, that I am stuck with them.
Or is there a way to safely remove them?
I'm in a bind here as this is 1 of 2 items I need to take care of so I can go live.
The other item is related in a way so I'll tack that question on to this thread. What controls the text and background colors of the image upload area? It's white on white now and a real pain to use...
