Isn't that THE goal of a social network? Connecting people together.

When this is your goal* then you should provide the functionality to make it happen. To enforce and stimulate this social activity. vBulletin in it's current state provides the fundaments for social networking* but it clearly misses important tools upon those fundaments to reach our goal of creating a mature/professional social networking environment for our endusers* if that's your goal....Grover

The thread above started a great discussion on a suggested personalized entrance page.

With the Suite Only* we have some light for the end users with the default widgets (just as Wayne pointed out before):

1. Recent Forum Posts
2. Recent Blog Posts
3. Recent Comments
4. Recent Articles
5. Friends Activity Widget
6. Section Navigation Widget
7. Category Navigation Widget
8. 3rd Party HTML Widgets (i.e. Google Gadgets)
9. BB Code Widgets
10. Poll
11. RSS Widgets

Now building a custom page for the end users seems to be possible and a step closer* it's only a part of the gap needed to be filled. What about social groups? Recent comments - does that mean from your own blog or from everyone's blog?

We can add a widget with links to the usercp options...but that creates yet another click back and forth. Still the clicks are there. I wonder if some of these widgets will be available for use in the near future for the usercp area? That would be nice.

Right now* we are provided with some things to start with. Thank you for that. But* please do not forget the initial requested features of that thread. 4.0 features are only part of the solution* not the complete solution yet.

I think the main key here is personalization for the end user. And I still strongly believe that having a personalized entrance page is very important to the end users' experience.

The end user is the important factor here.

Too many clicks to find new info and the person loses interest.

You log in and what do you see? What do you see that is personal to you as the user?

How many clicks do you have to make to see the latest of every feature?

Did you forget to look at your blog to see if you have any comments to approve? Your friends might get offended if you ignored their witty comments!

What about social groups? Did you look at them all to see if there are any new posts? Someone might not appreciate it if you are ignoring them in the social groups as well!

Yes* you can see the forums & yes you can get a notification (in your navbar) about profile comments* photo comments* pm's* etc...but* what about the rest?

The current usercp could be enhanced to be a personalized entrance page* IMHO. Right now it's wasted space unless you have a ton of subscribed threads and rep points comments...But* I've already written a few times on that in this thread...I won't bore with repeating it all...just some is all..lol.

Again* thank you for the widgets. Yes* it is something to base a new custom page on. Maybe if we can make that page the first page a user sees when they login (optional by admin* of coarse) it may replace this suggestion with the perfect option altogether.
