Server Reached MaxClients Setting Yesterday, the website I run, nv News, became unresponsive. The CPU and I/O usage were very low during this time. I requested a reboot and the technician noticed a message in the Apache log - [error] server reached MaxClients setting, consider raising the MaxClients setting At the time the ServerLimit and MaxClients parameters in the httpd.conf (/etc/httpd/conf) was 150. The technician increased the value to 250 and rebooted the server. The site was up most of the day on Friday, but again became unresponsive around 8:00pm. I asked for another reboot with MaxClients at 512. Unfortunately this has not resolved the problem. At this point, I really don't know what to look for. The server has 4GB of RAM and the number of connections was ranging from 475-500 before I requested the reboot. Are there any other methods to diagnose reaching MaxClients? We've been running this server for years and never encounterted this issue. Thanks, MikeC - nV News |
