LG Electronics, a global leader and technology innovator in mobile communications, today officially launches its new Viewty Smart (LG-GC900) the slimmest 8 megapixel camera phone on the market. Featuring Intelligent Shot Mode a first for a camera phone, the Viewty Smart makes it simple to take great photos as it automatically and intuitively analyses the surrounding environment and adjusts the camera settings accordingly.

The announcement comes just as LG has reached a major milestone with another camera phone: the original Viewty, launched in November of 2007, has now sold 7 million units. Designed to look like a compact digital camera, the Viewty was the world’s first full touchscreen 5 megapixel camera phone. It was immensely popular from the start, selling 310,000 units in just the first five weeks of its release in Europe.
“Viewty’s popularity is due to its combination of advanced technology and innovative design,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President & CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We are continuing to establish our dedication to providing revolutionary camera phones that set market benchmarks as the original Viewty did.”

The new LG Viewty Smart builds on the heritage of its predecessor, whilst incorporating significantly upgraded features with a continued focus on the art of photography, making it much easier and more enjoyable to take photos.

“In the past, camera phones have been primarily concerned with the specs and number of megapixels, not about the pleasure of actually taking great pictures,” Dr. Ahn said. “Viewty Smart changes everything, providing the user with pictures that look exactly like what they see. It is the most advanced 8 megapixel camera phone on the market not only because of it high quality specs, but because of the unparalleled user experience it delivers.”

“LG brings its pioneering touch technology together with advanced camera phone features such as Intelligent Shot Mode, giving users smarter photos in a touch. With the Viewty Smart the phone does the thinking, allowing users to concentrate on capturing that unmissable moment, perfectly everytime,” said Jeremy Newing, head of marketing, LG Mobile, UK.

Viewty Smart boasts improvements to both its software as well as its hardware:

* Incorporating LG’s new 3D User Interface with extra features including an onscreen selector dial that makes switching to camera mode quicker and easier
* 60 percent higher resolution than the 5 megapixel Viewty, ideal for large prints
* Increased light sensitivity up to ISO 1600 and the LED flash keep details crisp and clear, even in dim lighting
* Razor-sharp 3.0-inch WVGA touchscreen compliments the Viewty Smart’s image output and is ideal for watching DivX or Xvid movies on-the-go
* Improved video capabilities, adding DVD-quality recording
* Viewty Smart is just 12.4 mm thick and weighs a mere 102g, making it the slimmest and most portable 8 megapixel phone on the market

The Viewty Smart goes on sale in the UK in May. LG has also announced plans for a 12 megapixel camera phone with even more smart features, planned for launch later this year.
