Tuesday 2 nd October, 2012.

The prisoner Mohammed Ali Mohammed Mushaima (23 years old) has been killed by the regime as he was deprived of his right to have basic medical treatment in prison. He had been accused with fabricated and false charges.

Military courts sentenced him to seven years in prison, despite evidence and official documents disclosed by his lawyer before the court that he was admitted at hospital at the time of the incident he is accused in.

Martyr Mushaima told his lawyer a few days before he passed away that he was deprived of being medically treated due to his acute illness. He asked to leave the governmental hospital to be treated in a private one. But, his lawyer’s requests were rejected by the court and the concerned official bodies.

The Higher Court of Appellate rejected more than 7 requests raised by his lawyer calling for an immediate release for innocence of all charges against him, and for his exceptionally critical health situation. The court, instead, ordered to arrest him when hearing sessions in his case had started.

The martyr acutely suffers the sickle cell anemia disease. Despite his exceptionally critical health situation as a human being, and all the calls from his family and lawyer for his release, the regime decided to keep him inside prison to suffer his illness and deny him medical treatment. Although Interior Ministry, Public Prosecution, Ministry of Health and courts knew about his critical health situation, sadly, he died with disease complications.

Eyewitnesses described the terrible arrest of the martyr Mohammed Mushaima "armed forces attacked Kanoo Medical Center which is dedicated to receive sickle cell anemia patients during the Emergency Law. They horrified and spread terror amongst all. They locked up nurses in a room. They brutally forced workers to take another corner in the medical center where they were subjected to physical torture.

"The regime forces prevented patients from visiting the medical center. They entered all rooms, vandalizing all medical devices and tools. They took mobiles, stole personal belongings and they verbally harassed and defamed patients and the medics’ religious beliefs. All were subjected to brutal beating, humiliation, torture and other serious human right violations" eyewitnesses said.

"They went to the rooms in which sickle cell anemia patients were admitted. They pulled out the patients’ Saline and left them bleeding. They inhumanely asked these patients about their pain, and they deliberately beat them on the place of pain". Eyewitnesses added "these barbaric forces messed up in the medical center for long hours. They humiliated medics and caused interruption to medical care capability, to be totally lost. Afterward, they arbitrarily arrested 10 sickle cell patients including the martyr Mushaima who was accused with fabricated charges later on. He was subjected to severe torture in custody.

The martyr Mohammed had faced false and unjust accusations related to incidents that took place on 13th March, 2011. On this date, Mohammed was admitted at hospital as he had been suffering sickle cell complications. Mohammed, amongst a large number of Bahrainis, face deliberate neglect by authorities for proper treatment.

Mohammed was admitted early morning hours at Kano Health Centre, where sickle cell patients are, and remained there until 9am. Practically, half an hour after the incident he was accused in happened. He was then taken back to hospital because of his critical health condition.

A medical report stated in June 2012 that Mohammed Ali Mushaima is suffering sickle cell disease and needs to be admitted to hospital for treatment. The report pointed out that he was suffering physical disability in his right thigh bone because of the sickle cell complications he was going through. The report stated, “The patient was admitted for treatment on June 18, 2012 and is still under supervision ".

The regime forces have arrested on Tuesday, 2 nd October early morning six medics including a female nurse. The medics are being punished for treating injured pro-democracy protesters.
