AlWefaq confutes Walid Maalouf's pro-dictatorship allegations

Linking the crisis in Bahrain to the outside is baseless and chaotic, as the demands of the Bahraini people go back to a long time

AlWefaq Media Centre confuted Mr.Walid Maalouf's recent allegations that linked the complicated situation in Syria with what it is happening in Bahrain.

AlWefaq said "The democratic demands in Bahrain are long-old. They have been adopted by the people of Bahrain about a century ago. It didn't start as a mere consequence of the situation in Syria and, thus, will not be linked with its developments".

AlWefaq Media Center emphasized in its statement, "The revolution in Bahrain erupted before the Syrian. It has no links, at all, with conflicting axes which are complicating the situation in Syria. The people, here, will peacefully continue their pro-democracy struggle, regardless of the developments in Damascus. The revolution in Manama is sincerely patriotic and has no links with the outside by any means"

It added with respect to the meeting that Mr. Maalouf referring to "Both Hezbollah and AlWefaq are members in the General Conference of Arab and Islamic Parties. And, such meetings between SGs and senior figures of these parties take place normally on the sidelines of international conferences. Moreover, this meeting was normal, not hidden, and not exceptional, covering news about it was also published in local newspapers in Bahrain. AlWefaq meets with all political parties with different backgrounds including Arab, Islamic, nationalists and leftists".

"Statements from Hezbollah about what it is happening in Bahrain are similar, or even less loud than, many others announced by world official departments, leaders and international organizations who slammed the excessive brutality against peaceful protesters. Moreover, these international stances asked to stop impunity to human rights abusers in Bahrain. The world is asking for a meaningful dialogue that can produce a political resolution and realize the people's legitimate aspirations. However, Hezbollah statements are not out of the international context. In fact, their statements are less in number and contents in comparison with other statements from world leaders. The surprise is why Mr. Maalouf wanted to make it as conspiracy against the government of Bahrain. What is Maalouf agenda?" AlWefaq wondered.

AlWefaq Media Centre rejected Mr. Maalouf accusations that AlWefaq is working for foreign agendas. It pointed out that "If Mr. Maalouf adopts some negative views against Hezbollah, other political complications in Lebanon or even the complicated situation in Syria, it's still wrong of him to judge Bahrain's pro-democracy struggle from that same narrow vision, turning a blind eye to Bahrain political history".

"Maalouf's allegation and its consequences harm all parties in Bahrain. They are unhelpful neither to push for national reconciliation, nor to produce just political solutions. Moreover, his statement does not even help protect the Western interests in this country as he might pretend to do. He should think quieter about how to help and support constant and long standing stability in Bahrain and the region, and not disturb it. There is no solution but a real democratic transition in Bahrain."

The media center stressed that the revolution of Bahrain is moving according to an uncompromised strategic principles which are the transition to democracy, relying on the peaceful means, independent and national approach. Therefore, AlWefaq is not in need to be militarily trained or provided with arms, and strongly rejects Maalouf's baseless accusations.

The statement mentioned that Maalouf might be one of those who have hidden agendas and believe in the what so called "constructive chaos" theory which aims to destroy the Arab countries for the sake of their own agendas. Bahrain is a harmonious country and it is not to be sold in the international market. AlWefaq and other national political parties have always been working hard protecting the country from such conspiracies and will be the shield that will always protect the country.
