MTS to FCP-Transcode Sony NEX-5N AVCHD to ProRes 422 for FCP(X) editing

Sony MTS Converter-Edit NEX-5N 1080/60p MTS in FCP 6/7 or FCP X on Mac

Sony's DSLR camera NEX-5N is very popular among the photographers, the fashion body, compact design and easy to use features make it excellent. The Sony NEX-5N users will be glad to find that they can record their memories at 1080/60p, which convey twice the information that 1080/60i. But almost at the same time, they will be disappointed with the incompatibility of the Sony NEX-5N 1080p 60p MTS files and FCP. Even with the lastest update of FCP X, we have not seen the expected support for 50/60p AVCHD MTS. So how to import Sony Nex-5N AVCHD videos into Final Cut Pro for smoothly editing on Mac?

In my oponion, the best method to solve this problem is to transcode Sony NEX-5N 1080/60p AVCHD to Apple ProRes which is natively yet best supported by Final Cut Pro 6/7 and FCP X. Obviously, we need to get some help from a Sony AVCHD Converter.

Here I recommend you try Pavtube's MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac. It supports encoding all Sony 1080 50/60P AVCHD MTS files to Apple ProRes 422 so that you can easily import the Sony AVCHD footages to Final Cut Pro X, Final Cut Pro 6, Final Cut Pro 7 for editing on Mac. This will help you import the file correctly and saving the rendering time. If you have the same problem about editing Sony NEX-5N AVCHD 50/60p videos in Final Cut Pro, check out the brief guide below.

Convert/Import Sony NEX-5N 1080 60p AVCHD to Final Cut Pro for editing smoothly with Apple ProRes Codec on Mac

Step 1. Free Download the Mac Sony 50/60p MTS Transcoder for FCP to your PC. Install and run it. It's excellent Sony video converter which can convert nearly all canon cameras' videos to any formats you need, such as Apple Prores 422 MOV, Apple InterMediate Codec MOV, QuickTime MOV, etc.

Step 2. Click format bar to choose output format for use in FCP 6/7 or FCP X. Choose Final Cut Pro -> Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov).

Here we recommend the Apple ProRes 422. In the settings you will find Pavtube allows you to keep the original frame rate 50/60fbps in the final ProRes files.

Step 3. Click "Convert" button to start the conversion from Sony AVCHD 50/60p footage to FCP Apple ProRes MOV on Mac OS.

After the workflow, you can go to the output folder to find the converted video files. Now you are free to log and transfer or import/edit Sony NEX-5N AVCHD 1080 60p videos in Final Cut Pro 6/7 or FCP X under Mac without problems.

Tips: Before you try to do the conversion, if you are also a FCP X user, please make sure that you have installed the Apple ProRes Codec manually since the FCP X asks users to install it by themselves.
