Why Political Settlements Would Not Work in Bahrain? The counter-revolution forces (political societies led by Wefaq) have been struggling to convince people accept what they refer to as "political exit to the crisis" (the term "revolution" does not exist in their dictionary). This "political exit" consists of an "empowered parliament" and an "elected government", while main taining the constitutional monarchy. In order to achieve their goal (assuming they have the privilege to have one, which is very unlikely), they rely on the "friends of democracy", the United States and United Kingdom administrations (which happened to be the main protector of the Al-Khalifa illegitimate regime). The situation in Bahrain is comparable to Yemen to a large extent (prior to Saleh's ouster). Both countries are old allies of the US and Saudi Arabia, ruled by ruthless regimes and are more importantly, have a portion of the opposition under total influence of the US. In Yemen, Saleh was ousted, a presidential election took place and a new government has been formed. But has Yemen achieved true democracy? Clearly the answer is NO. Bahrain wont be any different and we challenge the counter-revolution forces to prove otherwise. |
