Activation (et all) E-mails Being Bounced By Selected Mailservers Having a bit of a problem with my activation e-mails (and subscriptions etc) being bounced by some mail servers. Having done a bit of research it looks as though these mails are being treated as spam by some servers. Most of the mail come back with 550:Some-made-up-reason-for-bouncing-your-mail, however I can e-mail most of these accounts directly with no problem. I read that the mail domain should be the same as the forum domain. So I set up a forwarding mail account on my forum's domain which is a sub of my main domain i.e forum.mydomain.org -> [email protected] (previously it was [email protected]) which has sorted out a few bouncers but I still get about 80-100 per day. Unfortunately my host runs the server with PHP in safe mode (I cannot get them to change that) so the -f paramater is out of reach for the PHP mail() function. Would setting up an account on the mailserver I use (mail.mydomain.org) and setting the forum to use SMTP improve my chances of the outgoing mail getting through? Or do I have to beg every mailserver that bounces mail to allow my forum mail to be delivered? |
