hey guys!

i've inherited supporting a forum that had some code in the navbar that showed the number of new posts and new threads. it looks like this:

There has been $newposts new posts and $newthreads new threads since your last visit.
now the problem i'm having is that the forum lost it's db [it was previoiusly on vB 3.6.4 and on another site running vB 3.7.4] and i wound up installing vB 3.8.2 and the $newposts and $newthreads are no longer working.

how did $newposts and $newthreads change in 3.8? is there any way to update the code so that it can be used?

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
