Webmaster Tools Duplicate Meta Descriptions
 

I've been using Google's Webmaster tools and am getting hundreds of pages of "duplicate meta descriptions" that pertain to the forums. I'm guessing that a page can be called from 2 URLs - the thread reference and the first post of a page. So if your pages are paginated for 10 posts a page and you have 14 posts, the link from post 1 of the thread (showing first 10 posts) will be identical to the thread reference number (showing same first 10 posts on the page) so the meta descriptions will be the same.

Perhaps I'm not understanding this error but the description I saw is basically 2 identical pages of content exist and that is the error. The URLs above generated by vBulletin that are identical end off with "?p=12345" for the post and the thread being "?t=34556" and showing the same page.

I can't find any answers here and can't imagine I'm the first to notice this. Is there something I could be doing wrong here?

PS - I'm also noticing I'm getting "short meta description" errors too, mostly on pages that are lists for posts in each forum so the description will be like "Speed Chess online page 1" - and google doesn't like this. Anyone else have this issue too?
