Political forces look forward for a serious dialogue ending with people’s consent of its results

The political forces (Al-Wefaq, Waad, Nationalist, Alekha and Unitary) held a meeting on Sunday 18 March 2012 to study political developments in the country. A significant portion of the meeting dealt with developing position regarding any forthcoming dialogue.

Whilst welcoming any dialogue offering leading to a political resolution guaranteeing justice and equality and protecting interests of people from all walks of life in the country in the absence of a security solution with its adverse consequences, opposition forces would like to affirm the following:

First: Any offer of dialogue requires consensus on its agenda, means, and duration in order to provide initial guarantee of its seriousness.

Second: Political forces contend for inclusion of all spectra including detainees; the way forward is for representative of His Majesty the King separately engaging with opposition groups with rights to meet others; a public announcement should be mad once a consensus has been attained.

The following three principles form an integral part of perspectives of opposition forces, namely:

1) The initiative of the Crown Prince uncovered on 13 March 2011
2) The Manama Document declared on 12 October 2011
3) Recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI)

Third: Opposition forces call for categorical implementation of BICI recommendations beginning with release of all political prisoners, in turn considered prisoners of conscience, reinstatement of all unfairly dismissed employees as well as start of the process of transitional justice.

Fourth: The official and semiofficial media sources must stop all kinds of political and sectarian agitation the opposition and a large section of the population; hence, the need for restructuring the Information Affairs Authority, by turning it into professional media allowing for second opinions, thereby paving the way for a serious dialogue where all are respected.

Fifth: Presentation of outcome of any dialogue to the people in order to gain legal and popular backing; such a practice is essential, as people are sources of all powers, whose approval is imperative for success of any political agreement

Sixth: The political forces have agreed to set up a committee comprising of heads of the societies as a reference negotiating team for making decisions; also, they have decided to have a joint delegation for any forthcoming dialogue opportunity.
