Advice on VPS options Hey guys, can anyone recommend some hosts and packages for VPS... I run a smallish forum with 2000 members, low number of posts/threads but large post size. We get signups on a seasonal basis (between july-october) because of our market. The site went live in august though so most of those members came in a short space of time. It means we aren't sure how many we are going to get this summer, could be anywhere between 400 and 10,000. We are currently getting ready for this. At the moment our database size is 20mb (we typically have small numbers of 'essay' posts). Concurrent users is 20 per day, peak was 75. Our host won't tell us bandwidth but its under 100Gb (else we would get a surrcharge). We want to be able to handle 75 users at once as a minimum, with burst available for higher peaks. Speed is essential, because if we lose users due to slow load times during our peak summer period, we have to wait an entire year before we get the chance to 'recruit' large numbers of users again. I realise we could go shared for this size forum, but we're expanding rapidly and our current host has grown tired of our bandwidth consumption. VPS will give us more room for future projects and more control over our options. Oh and we'll be wanting managed. Thanks for your help! |
